|Clean and protect your boat or RV for maximum beauty and longevity.|
Do you know what your boat is made of and how it came to be? It may help explain the special characteristics of these amazing vessels.
Fiberglass as we know it was patented in 1936 under the brand Fiberglas by Owens-Corning. That same year, polyester resin was patented by DuPont™. It was found that the fiberglass could be reinforced with the resin to make a very strong, sturdy composite. The first boat made of fiberglass impregnated with polyester resin was built in 1942 and that is still how most boats are built today. For added durability and style, the fiberglass hull is covered in a gel coat that gives it its slick, shiny appearance. This gel coat is subject to oxidation but this can be prevented with regular maintenance.
Boat manufacturers recommend washing, polishing, and waxing all the fiberglass surfaces regularly to prevent oxidation of the gel coat. Even though the boat may be structurally sound forever, it won’t look it if the gel coat is corroding. Since a boat can be an awkward thing to detail, you may want to combine steps to make the process faster and easier. Meguiar’s #50 Marine/RV Cleaner Wax is a one-step cleaner and protectant for the gel coat that will cut down your maintenance time so you can spend more time where you really want to be – on the water!
Meguiars Marine RV Cleaner Wax 50 can be applied to a boat or RV with a white polishing pad on a Makita Circular Polisher.
Meguiar’s #50 Cleaner Wax contains chemical cleaners that remove light oxidation, haze, and minor swirls and scratches. It deposits anti-corrosive ingredients and a layer of shiny protection on your boat that withstands salt air and water, corrosion, and UV rays. Regular application will prevent the white chalk effect of oxidation. Painted fiberglass will remain crisp, vibrant, and shiny!
In addition to cleaning properties, #50 contains an outstanding glossy wax. It will bring out colors and make white appear even brighter. The slick shine will lock out corrosive elements and maintain the like-new appearance of your boat or RV.
To apply Meguiar’s #50 Marine/RV Cleaner Wax, wash and dry your boat or RV first. Apply #50 to a foam applicator pad and rub onto one section of fiberglass at a time. When it dries to a haze, buff off the residue with a microfiber towel. Continue until you’ve buffed your entire boat or RV to a bright gloss.
You will find it easiest to use a polisher like the Porter Cable 7424XP to detail your boat or RV efficiently. Use a finishing pad to apply #50, working in small sections at a low speed. Keep more than one pad on hand so you can change pads as needed. Mix a solution of DP Polishing Pad Rejuvenator and water in a 5 gallon bucket and toss used pads in the bucket as you work. When you add one pad, remove and rinse another so you always have a clean pad to work with. You may also use DP Polishing Pad Rejuvenator to wash your microfiber towels and tools. Check out our Buffers, Polishers, and Pads section for all the pads and tools you need to bring out the shine in your boat or RV.
For the special maintenance requirements of fiberglass, use Meguiar’s #50 Marine/RV Cleaner Wax to polish and wax at the same time. Less time detailing means more time to enjoy the outdoors!
